How it works

Merchant of Record

For cross-border orders SellAbroad is the seller of record, which is what lets us take on payments, tax, and disputes for you.

For every cross-border order, SellAbroad acts as the merchant of record (MoR): we are the seller on record to the buyer and to the card networks. That position is what lets us take the hard parts off your plate.

What SellAbroad handles

  • Charging the buyer. The transaction is processed under SellAbroad, so you do not need payment licenses or acquirer relationships in each country. The charge appears on the buyer's statement under SellAbroad rather than your store name — worth telling buyers to expect, so they recognise it.
  • Tax. We calculate the destination country's tax at checkout, recompute and verify it after payment, and remit it. Always charge the tax we return: persistent under-collection raises alerts and can get your account locked.
  • Fraud and chargeback liability. We screen every order for fraud and represent it if a payment is disputed. See Disputes and refunds.

What stays with you

  • Your products, catalog, and pricing.
  • Fulfillment and shipping.
  • Customer service and your own order records.

Cross-border only

SellAbroad is the merchant of record for the international markets you enable. Domestic buyers in your home market keep checking out through your own setup, unless you choose to include your home market too. Which countries are active is up to you — see Currencies and markets.

Once an order is fulfilled it becomes eligible for payout, which SellAbroad calculates net of fees and sends on your account's schedule — see Getting paid.
