How it works

Tax-inclusive pricing

Keep product or shipping prices fixed when they already include tax, and show the included tax without charging it twice.

SellAbroad supports both tax-exclusive and tax-inclusive prices. The setting is country-specific, so the same product can be tax-inclusive in one market and tax-exclusive in another.

Inclusive and exclusive totals

Suppose a product is priced at $100 and the destination tax rate is 20%:

Pricing treatmentCheckout breakdownBuyer pays
Tax-inclusive$83.33 product value + $16.67 Tax (included)$100.00
Tax-exclusive$100.00 product value + $20.00 tax$120.00

With inclusive pricing, SellAbroad extracts the tax from the price. The tax is still shown in the checkout and order breakdown, but it is not added to the total again. With exclusive pricing, tax is added on top.

The tax SellAbroad retains is excluded from your payout in both cases.

Configure shipping separately

Product and shipping prices can use different tax treatments:

  • Shipping includes tax — the shipping amount stays fixed and its tax is included in Tax (included).
  • Shipping excludes tax — shipping tax is added at checkout.

Choose the option that matches the rates your store supplies. Otherwise the shipping row and checkout total will not reconcile.

What buyers and store admins see

Hosted Checkout and Payment Container use the same SellAbroad tax calculation. For an inclusive order, the product and shipping amounts remain gross amounts and the included-tax line is informational. For an exclusive order, the tax line increases the amount due.

The same treatment is saved with the order so that the checkout, confirmation, payment amount, and order details stay aligned. Configuration changes apply to new orders only; existing orders keep the treatment used when they were placed.

Turn it on

Where you switch this on depends on your platform. Each guide walks you through turning it on and checking it worked.
